Music is an ongoing process

For over a year we have been waiting and longing and this is all we get! A strange interview article in Norra Skåne with Robin about finding the balance in life (same thing he said last year) and staying healthy and strong, eating right and booking gym workouts. We think: How about booking a gig pass instead.

The little we see of the article (for subscribers) also mentions that Stjernberg has two songs that climb internationally that have given Stjernberg an explosive start in 2022. What? We clarify (!) as a songwriter and not as a singer on these two songs and we have not seen Robin music on social media in over a year. The article gos on: "Continuation, when society opens up? New trips, new meetings. He wants to meet people with the same dreams, the same drive. People who share the great passion for music."

Robin Stjernberg also tells Norra Skåne newspaper that "Music is an ongoing process"
Well thank you, we know, he has postponed his own EP for 2 years now. But we are here forever and always. He will always be the best

Constantly on the hunt

Robin Stjernberg turns 30 years old. Photo: Claudio Bresciani / TT

From childhood talent to the victory in the Melodifestivalen 2013 - competitions have been a common thread in Robin Stjernberg's life. The dreams have helped him move forward, but it is cooperation that is the key to everything, he emphasizes.

- In the music industry in general, there are a lot of questions about what you have done: "What fat references do you have on the merit list, then?". While in Nashville, people are asking, "What's your story?"

Robin Stjernberg tries to explain what it is that makes him enjoy working with songwriting in Nashville, USA. The well-known music city is usually associated with country, but has also become a mecca for pop music. Robin came there three years ago, when he felt it was time to take it a step further. From "just" being an artist to also earning a living as a producer and songwriter. From having the small Swedish music industry as a base to trying to take the step to an international stage.

For Robin, Nashville was an enticing destination. It is the city where the first question for newcomers is what is even "story" and the second: "Can you play a little for us?". A creative climate that suits Robin.

- Everything is spontaneous there and they shit in who I am and what I have done. It's all about musicality and writing songs. They also do not have many pop producers there, and I for my part want to take part in their "lyricism", their way of writing and putting things into words is absolutely incredible. Mixing it with Swedish pop will be very nice.

As an artist, he got his breakthrough first in "Idol" in 2011, then on an even broader front with the winning song "You" in the Melodifestivalen 2013. It was no coincidence that led him there - Robin's upbringing has been lined with singing competitions, and he has literally practiced shout "Hello Globen" since middle school.

- From when I was eleven to maybe 17, I always shouted "Hello Globe!" before I was going up on a stage. It was like a mantra. People asked why. And I just: "Because one day I will be at the Melodifestivalen and then I will be in the Globe". It was his father who drove between countless talent competitions, which over the years became bigger and more important. In 2011, he came in second place after Amanda Fondell in "Idol" and got a record contract.

A couple of years later, it was time for the competition, Melodifestivalen. There is a clip on Youtube from the final where you see that it takes almost two minutes for a teary-eyed and overwhelmed Robin Stjernberg to understand that he has won.

- It was completely genuine. I had dreamed about this since I was a little boy, he says.

- But after Mello, I felt that I want people to understand the work behind it, that I spend many, many hours sitting and creating this music. It is easy to focus on how many likes you get on a selfie, rather than on the music you have made. It's a bit problematic for me.

A few years after the breakthrough, he retired. For the money he had earned on the tour after the victory, he could sit and learn to produce for a few years. As an artist, he always had to wait for the producers to have time. Now he can handle the "prodding" in his own studio and also write for other artists.

Last year he released a single with Jill Johnson, wrote the song "Where do we go" which John Holiday sang in the final of the American TV competition "The voice", and released his first solo single in a while, "Pretty" . He has also collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion, Sandro Cavazza and Estraden.

He has come a long way when it comes to cultivating dreams. But he wants to continue to develop with the music and be part of new contexts. The forward movement is the important thing, it and the cooperation with others.

- Nothing in my career or in my life I have done myself. Cooperation is the key to everything, in one's relationships, in the profession, says Robin Stjernberg, who says that he is "in a constant process where he works forward".

- I'm looking for something, but I do not know exactly what it is. I just know I'm chasing something all the time. Every day in the studio, I chase the song, and hope I get something good. I like to be in that constant chase, and feel like I'm not stopping. That would be my nightmare, I think. That is the thread of my life, I just want to move forward and experience as much as I can.

Robin Stjernberg
Congratulations to 30 years on February 22, 2021.
Do: Singer, producer and songwriter. Current with the single "Pretty".
Lives: Stockholm.
Family: The family that is spread across the country.
This is how he celebrates his birthday: “I am thinking of taking three days off over my birthday, I have not been off that much, only four days over Christmas. Chew something good, and treat myself to a little whiskey. Then maybe I'm having a brak party when I'm 31.
Turning 30: “It is not the number that matters. I think people who are 50 can be young. In the face of aging, I'm just grateful to have another year. ”
Listening to right now: A Spotify list with 1970s music. "Because I do everything but retro in the studio, I get a break when I listen to it."
Gets happy from: “Positive energy. But it is difficult to find the light in these times. I try to create happiness by thinking excessively positively. And it helps, so it's a hot tip.
Idol: “It has always been my father. I was so young when I knew what I wanted to do, it was just music, music, music. And he supported me, drove me to all the talent hunts and laid the foundation for me. He has also fought in headwinds, and is a living proof that it works if you work hard for something. ”

Podcast Hitfabriken

Robin Stjernberg take a part on the podcast #37 "Hitfabriken" at Spotify, where he talk about the talent hunt that led to the boyband "What´s Up" together with Eric Saade and how the second place in Idol led to the Melodifestivalen and the Eurovision Song Contest.

About his age crisis, counting sheep to fall asleep, why he has no gold and platinum records set up, and why he calls Nashville his second home. But he also tell about setbacks like when he "covered" after Eurovision and slept for two days after hard work in his slim malnourished body that led to a collapse, even though he then stated how well he was feeling. About the superficiality of his industry and how it feels to be judged for its surface and be called "fat". How did he learn to love himself?

You will also hear unreleased demo versions and Robin premieres a new song written in the USA.

- To also have the opportunity to work with Bobby and Maria, two recognized talented entrepreneurs in our industry, does not make things worse. They have built up something very exciting in a short time and look forward to building on and lifting the publishing side to new heights.

Interview at Musikplats Stockholm P4

Jill Johnson and Robin Stjernberg released their new single duet "Miles Of Blue" on May 1st. In an radio interview at Musikplats Stockholm P4, they says that that the song is about their two parallel worlds, which land in the same message. A cool thing to work together as a songwriter and singer. Jill loves working with musicians and Robin has a fantastic voice and tons of language. You don't talk much about it, but every artist has their own tone of language.

Robin says that Jill has a pondus and has been a natural throughout his life and he is so happy to be able to do this. From two different worlds of music that have been brought together to make music together that works perfectly. Robin goes back to basics and to just the guitar like "Miles Of Blue" springs from and discovers Nashville, when before he just wanted to produce the biggest hit. Could be more music, if it becomes a tour they have talked about having each other as a guest. They have more TV shows booked in, and Robin is back now as an artist and more music that he just wants to come out with!

Spontaneous singing and lovely chords when Robin picked up his guitar, from his inside pocket and took out his mobile. Listen here at 01.41:

New start in Nashville

Robin Stjernberg return to Nashville, Tennessee to work on what could be the next big solo project. Stay tuned for music release in April and spring/summer tour 2019.

After a tribute autumn EP, followed by high-profile television appearances, Robin Stjernberg kicks off with Mello as songwriter in 2019 and a return to Nashville: "A few days away, will be gone for a while. We have a really exciting project going on, ”says the pop star from Hässleholm.

In front of the Melodifestivalen 2018, Robin Stjernberg told in a frank interview for Kristianstadsbladet about the heavy time. Maybe the trip to the top had gone too fast? He didn't feel good. Had to stop and take hold of the inner journey. When we talk a year later it is a Robin Stjernberg in harmony. The songwriter / producer / artist has said what he needed to say. Been open with their problems, marked a new start with the autumn ep 'Under water'.

- It's a plate that is based on stories I've been carrying with me for a while. It was very nice to tell.
The music - soulpop and r'n'b at varying pace. Robin Stjernberg says that the songs he writes today are the result of a long journey. Working with other artists, such as songwriter and producer, has taught him the craftsmanship. Made him grow.

- I have had distance to the music, and to myself, in a healthy way. Everyone works, in different ways, with their own performance anxiety. Then the experience that comes with different collaborations means a great deal.

You sat on the TV couch during the weekends and looked very safe.
- It's cool. I have worked a lot with myself. Become friends with myself. I don't want to show off a facade. There is no more extrovert version of Robin.

The old poles - Joel Strömgren (guitar), Johan Danving (drums) - was with you in the TV studio.
- It's fun. Joel has been with me since the upper secondary school in Kristianstad. Two incredibly talented musicians, both living and working in Stockholm.

2019 can be a great year for Robin Stjernberg. The Melodifestivalen - where he has a decent facet with double victory ("You" 2013, songwriter for Robin Bengtsson's "I can't go on" 2017) - is again topical. Stjernberg, together with Johan Linbrandt, Jens Hult and Omar Rudberg, have written FO & O-Omar's contribution "Om och om igen".

 Do you have a winner?
- Hard to say. Can be tough for a song in Swedish. But it is strong and Omar is a good artist. I am pretty sure that it is going well.

In the next breath, Robin Stjernberg tells that: He has written new to Omar's FO & O friend Oscar Enestad, produced what becomes Lisa Ajax Mellolåt ("Tower") - and been in the studio with Jill Johnson.

- I have written and produced Jill's next single. Jill Johnson, I love her! She enters a room and everything just stops. What a pound, and what voice!

In parallel, you prepare the next project, in your own name. Not afraid to rush too fast?
- When everything just feels fun, it's hard to stop. You just want to keep having fun. It can definitely be too much. I have learned to be more attentive, and more cautious.

In just a few days, Robert Stjernberg, with destination Nashville, Tennessee, will take off.
- I was there last August last year. Went over as a songwriter. Now they have asked me to come back, and this time we are focusing on what can be my own project.

Robin Stjernberg in Music City, the country's capital?
- My music is not direct country ... but so much else happens in Nashville. We work with soul and pop.

How did the US adventure begin?
- I am a partner in Bobby and Maria Ljunggren's Freebird Entertainment. We made a deal in the US and I was signed to a large publisher called Cobolt. It is a worldwide agreement, Nashville became a natural place to go.

Why just Nashville?
- Something very special happens there. Everyone, really everyone, lives for the music. The office people linger when the work day is over. They come to the studio ... listen, discuss. There is a passion for the music in Nashville that I can miss here at home.

Tell me about the plan?
- "Always" becomes the third single from the ep. The next release, in April, is completely new material.

Want to make an entire album in Nashville?
- We'll see. I get away for a while and hope that good things happen in the meantime.
- By the way, have to catch a trip to Memphis too. Should visit Graceland and jaw the Elvis burger. Robin Stjernberg laughs and we talk about the continuation.

A tour summer?
- I had a meeting with the booking the other day. Want to play and play...100 percent! We release new in April and try to match that music with the summer. Everything is about having clearly enough very good material. Right now, the feeling is that I shit in where and when, only I can get out with the band and play.

Interview by QANDA

After the success of Idol, Mello and Eurovision, Robin Stjernberg looks instead inward. The EP 'Under Water' is an open popsoul letter to himself that the most important thing will always be the music.

With the hand on the heart, all these songs are strong enough to be released as single. So it does not feel like you tried to pull it out at all with these four songs on the EP ...
Thank you, and I agree! The reason was probably that both me and my team felt to get out more songs at the same time, as I did not release more than one single at a time since 'Pieces' came!

Can I bit hasty interpret it further as there is more?
- Yes, there are more songs! But they will I start releasing this spring

Why did not Love come with?
- Simply because it was not written during this period and therefore broke the "concept" compared to the new songs, even though I love it just as much! These songs are held together by being open letters that I wrote to myself, where I tell about the different stages I've gone through and I've learned too much about the music.

Also purely musical, they are held together because I fully support the threads both in the writing and now in the productions! This means that although the songs are quite different, they have a uniform sound...

Where I am the common denominator.

'Under Water' felt like a fitting "umbrella name" since the whole EP is about my inner journey with the goal of loving and accepting myself as I am that I will come to the surface.

It feels like you have come to your right now. You feel more you and genuine now what I've perceived-to you as before. It shines through the songs. Is that a thought you can recognize at all?
- I understand it clearly! After all, it has taken time. Idol and Melodifestivalen has been fantastic for my career, but in order to find myself both on and off the stage and not least musically, I have had to spend all the hours and more or less got to unlock myself to develop. To develop in a direction I chose. And it's so bad that you think it's heard!

Did you know who you were when you stood before Eurovision's 170 million audience?
- Yes, wow ... I'd been twenty-two years old and of course I did not really know who I was. But that's so big a question, do I still know that? Do you know anything? All I knew was that I loved every minute of standing on stage and singing my songs. And I still do that. For me, the most important thing has been the music and I have always tried to keep my focus.

What did you feel when you stood there on stage?
"Being on the stage and singing was actually not so nervous when it was in Eurovision. I had been "practiced" by Mello and had a wonderful support from the home crowd in Skåne. So that was just fun!

There will be many ghostly evening press articles in such contexts...
"The attention you can get then is just a part of it, and you have to get used to and choose yourself if you want to comment or not, so it's pretty nice.

Since then, you have written a lot for other artists, including last year's 'I Can not Go On' winner, which also took Robin Bengtsson to Eurovision. What has made you write to other artists?
- Good question! I actually do not know yet. But the whole process of constantly sitting and writing does not make it even worse. I'm probably in the studio six days a week, it's different. Sometimes I have cut fifteen-sixteen hours a day. Which is quite a lot. But I try to keep it at a reasonable level in order not to tire the brain. But it's somehow a little bit like any job. You get faster on finding solutions in the creation, so I suppose I responded to it! (Laughing)

You also did 'Last Word' with Niello. Do you want to do more in Swedish?
- Absolutely, but it will probably take a while! My ambition is to take me outside Sweden's borders with my music right now, and the easiest tool is to sing in English.

Talking about him can you also rap?
- I love to rap! It's not too many people who have heard it, but in my computer there are about ten songs where I get rid of homemade beats ... (laughs)

Of course, it's another thing when you make music to others, but in your own music you often sit with other songwriters? How do you make sure that you really are "coming to the surface" in the end?
"It is about finding people whom you trust and who are as open as one is in the creation. It is magical to also get direct feedback that you are not alone in your feelings and thoughts, because then you also get an answer and a receipt that what you write is related. The songs are self-perceived to one hundred percent when written to myself. It is important to me. Above all, I'll feel what I'm writing.

Have noticed that the songs usually get better then.

If I'm writing with others, we usually start the day by sitting and talking about everything or nothing, important as unimportant things. And then something just pops out of the conversation. But it can also start, actually too-key now when I'm thinking about playing around with chords on the piano.

I usually let the tunes set the tone for what the song is about. "Do these chords feel sad or happy?" "Is it a melancholy story or a happy one?" and so on. It's everyday, my own feelings, but also people who inspire me. Like the people I wrote the music with for example.

Who did you write these four songs with?
- Benjamin Roustaing, Johan Lindbrandt, Martin Eriksson, Jon Eyden, Lewis Gardiner and Jack Hawitt!

'I Don´t' is about how negative thoughts affect and stand in our way? When did you feel so?
-Exactly! Today I have one such day for example. Everything is a bit gray outside the studio and my flow is not real as it usually is. But I'll get it through because I've learned what I need to do to feel good! I almost think it's a constant feeling or in case one knocks one on the shoulder a little bit from time to time. It just applies to being prepared and shaking back so that you do not let the mind down.

It's not least four soul songs. How do you relate to the soul?
- Love that kind of music, of course. Soul is clearly in the stories, and then it became natural that the souvenir got married with the lyrics and, above all, it felt natural with my voice.

Will it be able to see something you live now?
- I have just started a soundcheck period. I'm sitting and trying to learn a loop machine to "spicea" my live set. Exciting, but difficult. I will have some gig in the fall and winter and also do a showcase in the Atlantis studio on 21 November. So I look forward to it!

Right now, I have a goal of getting started and perform more this spring and summer especially, so put me on any stage, I will not get off. For now I have spent enough time down in the studio. It's time to get out and play

What would you say has been your most memorable gig so far?
- Most memorable? Hmm! Eurovision is clearly up there. But I have to say the summer tour that I had after that, it's unforgettable. So far, it's the funniest thing I've done live, to have a tour with my best friends and meet a lot of lovely people who like my music!

After the success of Melodifestivalen, it ended. - "It was terrible. Suddenly, I felt like the worst man in the world, "says Robin Stjernberg. Had writer block in half a year before it let go. "I sit 13-14 hours a day in the studio, but sometimes there are no songs. Then I can suddenly write a song in 20 minutes, says the artist Robin Stjernberg. After the tough time he is going to get his revolt. Soon he will release his new EP.

During Monday morning, the students at T4 school in Hässleholm in Skåne celebert the visited of the artist and Mello star Robin Stjernberg. The students had a few weeks earlier practiced his latest song "Love" that they sang together during the day.

After an intense period in Stockholm he thinks it's nice to be back at his old school.
How has the day been?
- "It has been amazing! Something happened in the eyes of the students as soon as we started playing together. It is a receipt that music is such an important part of teaching."
He describes life in Stockholm as very focused on career and succeeding in the music industry, something that can be very hard. - "That's why it's so important to do this here too. This is the core and I will never forget that."

- "As soon as we started singing, the students also started dancing." Now I'm totally sweaty, he says.
It's the first time Robin Stjernberg is in a workshop for students with functional variations. But to the Kvällsposten he tells that the experience has given blood tooth.

"Music is really something everyone can take on. You are met by the music and can communicate with each other in another way, he says and continues: - "I love raw feelings. There are no filters here and they will come true, so it should always be, he continues.

"Did not write a song in a half year"
After the super success of the Melodifestivalen 2013 and a series of tours, it ended up to much and in half a year Robin Stjernberg suffered from writing cramps.
- It was terrible. Suddenly, I felt like the world's worst man.
I could sit for several hours in the studio but did not get a single song. I did not write a single song in six months, he says.

When it let go in the fall of 2016, but the performance requirements are still in place. "I sit 13-14 hours a day in the studio, but sometimes there are no songs. Then I can suddenly write a song in 20 minutes.

Robin Stjernberg tells us that the song "Love" was one.
"I wrote that to my friends' wedding. It came only by itself.

Writes to others
In addition to singing and standing on stage, Robin also write songs for other artists. During last year's Melodifestival, Robin Bengtsson won the song "I can not go on" that Robin Stjernberg has written. - "I want to stand on stage but have no trouble writing songs to others as well." He's currently working on his EP scheduled for release later this year. "There's only one song left to write," he says.

Weekend in P3 Sverigesradio

Sunday chill with Ison, Arantxa and Robin Stjernberg. Weekend in P3 speaks sick, awkward, fun things that happen in cars. And debating the double tip's product or non-product and generally have nice Sunday hanging.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Robin Stjernberg release his new single - the love song "Love" and later on in the year, Robin is planning to release an EP. The twice winner of Melodisfestivalen Robin Stjerberg has never been so pleased with a song before. His latest single “Love” is a song he wrote for his best friend’s wedding.

- “Love” is powerful, organic, filled with love as well as a rawness. It’s the best song I’ve ever written

The song is a result of a promise. Many years ago, he promised his best friend he’d write her a song for her wedding. In August 2017 the big day was here. Just a week before the big day it all fell into place and he wrote the song in 20 minutes. It was a big moment for Robin to both write a song and perform it on such an important day!

- The whole song more or less wrote itself within 20 minutes. It was almost unnerving how easy it went. It was like fingers and mouth just worked by themselves. It is really an honour to experience something like that as a songwriter

”Love” became a special and very personal gift to the couple when he performed it live together with a gospel choir at the wedding. Songwriting has been a central part of Robin Stjernbergs life ever since he attended senior high school. But it hasn’t always been easy. A few years ago, he went through a tough period when he had problems finding his creativity. He even thought about giving up music all together. After a while his creativity slowly but surely started to return, and he wrote the song “Rain” (2016) about this period. Robin has found a way to work which is focused but that leaves room for creative movement. Last year he released the single “Feed On My Love”, a sublime song about unrequited love.

- It wasn’t until later on that I realised that I needed the dip to get myself to the next level. I have developed a lot lately and have found a calmness and security in myself. For me it’s been about accepting that everything doesn’t have to be perfect, neither in the music or as a human being, says Robin.

These last years Robin’s written a lot of material for other artists. In 2017 he created “I Can’t Go On” for Robin Bengtsson, which led him to win Melodifestivalen. Among the songs Robin has written include the winner’s song for Idol 2015, (Can’t Hold Me Down) and the hit, “Ashes” for Italian artist Sergio Sylvestre, which sold double Platinum.

Today Robin shares a studio with songwriter and producer, Bobby Ljunggren and is also one of the owners of the publishing company, Freebird Songs.

#Metoo has reached the music industry

Several famous artists now testify to harassment, approach and gender discrimination. Everything started with the uprising #Metoo. Recently, #tysttagtagning where people witnessed sexual abuse in the film and theater industry. Now it appears that the same culture is found in the music industry.

"What did I do like a man?"
Singer Robin Stjernberg sees the music industry having a problem when it comes to gender equality. "There are rotting eggs everywhere, crazy people. The rebellions of recent weeks have made him think much about his own behavior. "You have been through and tried to investigate yourself. What have I done like a man? And what have I not done? I have not entered when I've seen something. It's good what's happening now.

Ikväll uppträder melodifestivalvinnaren Robin Stjernberg i Norra hamn i Luleå.

Stjernberg står bakom Robin Bengtsson i Kiev

Robin Stjernberg är en av låtskrivarna bakom Robin Bengtssons "I can't go on". Nu är båda två på plats i Kiev för Eurovision Song Contest. Bild: Pontus Lundahl/TT
